Is it possible to maintain a healthy mouth without all the tingly, burny chemicals?
So say Georganics
Whats the difference?
Many people use mouthwashes on a daily basis to help keep their mouth in tip top condition and their breath fresh. But many of the ingredients in commercial mouthwashes could be argued to be doing harm as well as good. Ingredients such as Alcohol kill not only bad but good bacteria too, can lead to the mouth becoming overly dry and contribute to the increased risk of developing oral cancer.
They use a method called oil pulling which comes from an ancient Indian holistic health practice called Ayurveda , Ayur = life and Veda = science.
Based on the theory that the body and mind are linked Ayurvedic practices aim to maintain the balance between them and treat the body and mind as a whole.
Ayurveic oil pulling has been used for between 3& 5000 years . It works by drawing toxins from the mouth through the action of pulling and pushing the oil around your mouth. This allows it to collect and trap bacteria which live around the teeth and gums. When you then get rid of the oil you are also getting rid of all the bacteria trapped in it. Rather than killing the bacteria on contact as modern day mouthwashes do.
Coconut oil is known to be great for this due to its natural antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and anti-microbial properties.
The essential oils have been carefully chosen for the mouthwashes due to the benefits they also bring to the table.
Peppermint, is extremely effective at targeting bacteria which thrive in low oxygen environments (like the mouth) These bacteria can be responsible for gum disease.
Spearmint has similar qualities to peppermint but with a softer flavour
Tea Tree has natural antiseptic and cleansing properties, making it a great aid in healing gum disease.
Red Mandarin, has gentle soothing properties and is safe for children and for use during pregnancy.
Activated charcoal, not an essential oil! But adds a mildly abrasive quality to the mouthwash, the charcoal is also highly porous and traps bacteria within it as well as helping to remove stains and naturally whiten.
These and all their products are also
– Made in the UK
– Zero waste
– Low impact
– Vegan & Cruelty Free
– Completely natural and organic
It is a system that can take some time to get used to as you have to pull and push the oil around your mouth for 5-20 minutes, but you don’t have to start off with 20mins, if it is a challenge then start off with a comfortable amount of time and build it up from there. It can be done daily or less and it is most effective when done in the morning before breakfast and as with any teeth cleaning is not advised to be done after eating.
